OVERVIEW

The Canadian Network for Virtual Access to Specialists for Inflammatory Bowel Disease (CaNVAS-IBD) is a national pilot program to expand access to virtual care for IBD patients across Canada. CaNVAS-IBD is part of the Crohn’s and Colitis Canada PACE network which aims to improve health outcomes, address gaps in care, and develop solutions that can create changes in the public healthcare system.

The CaNVAS-IBD pilot program is led by Dr. Geoffrey Nguyen (Sinai Health Systems, Toronto, ON), along with Dr. Waqqas Afif (McGill University), Dr. Charles Bernstein (University of Manitoba), Dr. Sharyle Fowler (University of Saskatchewan), Dr. Jennifer Jones (Dalhousie University), and Dr. Kerri Novak (University of Calgary).

Success Stories

Alexa Young, CA

"The telemedicine program has made it very convenient for me to meet regularly with my IBD team, despite living far away from Mount Sinai Hospital. Overall, this means I am taking a lot less time off of work for routine appointments and spending less money on travel, compared to in-person appointments. The wait time for appointments appears to be significantly less with the PACE program versus in-person appointments. The OTN program used is user friendly and the quality of the connection is good. The appointment runs seamlessly starting with the nurse for information collection and ending with the gastroenterologist. The follow-up care plan, which is provided via email, outlines a summary of the appointment and next steps, which I find very helpful.”
